Shanghai has more single women than bachelors

SHANGHAI people tend to get married earlier. The latest census indicates that the average age of first marriage is 24.25 years in Shanghai, 1.01 years earlier than the 2010 figure.

People in suburban districts prefer to get married early -- about three years earlier than people in urban districts, the Shanghai Statistics Bureau said today.

Meanwhile, the city has more single women than men. In the past 10 years, the number of single women between the age 30 and 44 increased by 2.7 percent, but the number of bachelors in the same age group decreased by 1.4 percent, the bureau said.
