China's Got Talent extends search to HK, Taiwan

THE third season of China's Got Talent will be open to competitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan, the show's producer said yesterday in Beijing. The popular reality show has begun its new season with 30 recruitment stations across the country, including Hong Kong and Taiwan. "We hope to provide a bigger platform for untapped talent in the country, particularly creative young people," said Jin Lei, the show's director. "We will also open recruitment stations in London, Sydney and Los Angeles." Jin said the new season will continue to seek talent in ordinary people, who are more appealing to audiences of different regions and cultural backgrounds. The show will be shown on Dragon TV starting from November 13. Its final round is temporarily set on January 22, the eve of Chinese New Year. If so, China's Got Talent will become a strong competitor for the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, the most watched program in China for 30 years. However, the producer said they didn't mean to compete with the CCTV gala show, just want to offer a new entertainment choice for Chinese audiences on that day. The three-person jury has not been decided yet. But candidates include a celebrity Chinese TV host, Shanghai stand-up comedian Zhou Libo, Taiwanese singer-composer Jerry Huang and Taiwanese singer-actress Annie Yi.
